Psychiatric Evaluations

A clear starting point for mental health care

A psychiatric evaluation is often the first step toward understanding your mental health concerns and determining the most appropriate path forward. At Alpine Psychiatry, evaluations are designed to give you a clearer picture of what options make sense.

What is a psychiatric evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation helps your provider better understand your symptoms, medical history, and overall mental health. During the evaluation, you'll have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and work collaboratively with your provider to develop an individualized treatment plan.

Rather than focusing on a single symptom, we take time to understand the bigger picture, including your health history, current challenges, and personal goals.

What to expect during your appointment

Your first appointment is designed to be a conversation. The goal is to better understand your experiences, concerns, and goals so your provider can develop recommendations tailored to your needs.

Your provider will take time to ask questions about your current symptoms, medical history, mental health history, and how your concerns are affecting your daily life. You'll also have the opportunity to share what's been working, what's been challenging, and what you hope to achieve through treatment.

The conversation may focus on different areas depending on your unique situation.

During your evaluation, your provider may discuss:

  • Your current symptoms and concerns

  • Your medical and mental health history

  • Family history

  • Current medications

  • Daily functioning at home, school, or work

  • Previous treatments or therapies

  • Your goals for treatment

By the end of your appointment, your provider will review their clinical impressions, answer your questions, and discuss recommendations for next steps. Depending on your needs, this may include medication management, therapy, additional treatment options, or ongoing follow-up to continue gathering information and refining your care plan.

Who may benefit from a psychiatric evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation may be appropriate if you:

  • Are experiencing changes in your mood, thoughts, or behavior

  • Feel overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or stress

  • Have difficulty focusing or managing daily responsibilities

  • Are seeking answers about ongoing mental health concerns

  • Have been referred by another healthcare provider or therapist

  • Would like a second opinion regarding a previous diagnosis or treatment plan

Whether you're seeking care for yourself or a loved one, an evaluation provides an opportunity to better understand what's contributing to your concerns and determine the next steps together.
